In celebration of its 150th anniversary, Watkins Inc. has broken the Guiness World Tape for the greatest number of layers on a layer cake.
Inside the Watkins building on Friday, standing 6 feet alpine and one inch high, the record-breaking cake clocked in at 260 quarter-inch layers of goodness.

Information technology certainly wasn't easy. And they almost didn't make it.
To break the record, the Watkins crew, with the assist of Wuollet Bakery out of the Twin Cities, had to follow a plethora of guidelines. The most challenging requirement was that the block had to stand on its own — unassisted by hands, internal or external plastic framing — for lx whole seconds.
"We were down to the 2nd," president J.R. Rigley said with a laugh.
They likewise had to make sure each layer had icing on it, which led to a leaning — and sliding — Tower of Pisa.
As the timer — held by Guinness World Tape judge Christina Conlon — counted down, the crew gathered around equally the height of the cake slowly slid toward the ground.
